2-Day DesignBuilder/EnergyPlus “Advanced” Building Energy Simulation Workshop

Announcing an “advanced” building energy simulation workshop - to be held in the campus of Catholic University of America in Washington DC on Monday and Tuesday, 14 – 15 December 2009. The workshop is being lead by Dr. Mahabir Bhandari of DesignBuilder Software (USA) and James V. Dirkes II, P.E., LEED AP of The Building Performance Team. Both personnel have extensive experience in the use and teaching of building energy simulation programs. Participants will use the DesignBuilder/EnergyPlus suite extensively over the two days.

Overview of Topics covered

Day 1 : DesignBuilder Training

• Developing building geometry with DesignBuilder
• Importing from 2D-DXF and 3D gbXML import from CAD
• Templates and Model Data Management
• Timing: Schedules, Profiles, Holidays
• Heating Design, Cooling Design, Simulation
• Brief Introduction to Natural Ventilation

Day 2 : E+ Training

• Export a 5 zone model from DesignBuilder
• Modify and expand DesignBuilder's standard HVAC system templates to better reflect the desired HVAC system
• Testing a series of HVAC upgrades such as , adding AHUs, supply air reset control, VSD drives, low turn down ratios, low static pressure ductwork, or upgrading air cooled to water cooled plant
• Modify the model to meet ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G requirements

DesignBuilder Software, Purchase/refund policy: All workshops are subject to cancellation at least 10 days prior to the start date if insufficient registrations are received. 100% refund if the organizers cancel the workshop. 90% refund if participant cancels on or before the early registration deadline. No refund if participant cancels after early registration deadline.
